Alphabeat: Martha’s “Letter A” Playlist

Welcome to the first in Dork’s new series of Alphabet Playlists.

Welcome to the opening gambit in Dork’s new Alphabet Playlist series, where we occasionally ask bands to send us some tracks based on a theme beginning with whatever letter we’re up to.

If it were “L” week, you could end up with the greatest hits of Lemar; for “V” it could be songs about vegetables (McFly’s ‘Broccoli’, anyone?); for “S” it could be bands from Sunderland – you get the drift.

First up, we’ve Martha, who released their fab new album ‘Blisters in the Pit of my Heart’ earlier this summer. They’ve literally chosen the letter “A”, as the band explain:

“Here’s a playlist of stuff we listen to in the van that relates to the letter ‘A’ in some way. As a band we tend to spend a lot of time driving around and the silver lining to that cloud is that we have plenty of opportunities to listen to good music together and to share the new things we’ve been listening to with one another.

“Long drives can also often be a source of inspiration or ideas for things we want to try in future musically or lyrically. I think this list is mainly made of up punk and/or DIY stuff, but there’s also some variety in there.

“It’s difficult to do a playlist by a letter and there are a lot of van classics that we couldn’t find a way to fit in, but hopefully this is still a reasonably accurate reflection of what we’re into!”

Check out Martha’s “A” playlist below – minus Ginger Alford’s ‘Into The Void’, Dyke Drama’s ‘At It Again’ and Dark Thoughts’ ‘Addicted to Debt’, because they weren’t on Spotify.
