Dead Pretties don’t care about the hype

“Fuck all that.”

Dead Pretties are playing loads of festivals this summer – “Live At Leeds was fucking good.” “Margate Wonderland had a bumble bee ride.” “I met a Shaolin monk and a Nazi sympathiser at Glastonbury.” They get around.

Bringing their mischief to Latitude this weekend, the boys played a typically raucus set and it didn’t stop onstage. Chatting ‘behind the scenes’, they revealed big plans are afoot.

“We’ve got a single coming out. First week of August. ‘Confidence’. Listen out for it, we played it second today, if you were here. That’s going to come out; then we’ll probably release a couple more singles, then the album next year.”

It might be a way off, but the band are dead set on what and how they want the album to be. “All the songs are there, man,” Jacob says. “We just want to get on with it. I don’t really care about the whole hype thing, you know waiting for ages and then building things and taking photos with the right people and putting them on fucking Instagram. Fuck all that.

“Not many people left in music have that work ethic of, we are musicians, that’s what we do, and that’s all we do. We put music out as often as possible – that’s what we’re trying to do. No bells and whistles, no distractions. There are too many distractions.”
