Some things never change, Every year, we’re after new Xmas bangers, and every year we end up coming back to the same old classics. We asked Jamie Glass of Indoor Pets to come up with the definitive list. Which he did. See?
Fall Out Boy – Yule Shoot Your Eye Out
Let’s start off with one of the most “anti-Christmas” Christmas songs going and work our way backwards. I spent many a teen year flicking back my Emo fringe unwrapping presents to the tune of this diddy.
The Darkness – Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQhuoY5h2kE
I’m going to say something controversial here. Brace yourselves. I believe this was officially the last GREAT Christmas song to have been released. What’s topped it in the last decade? Got an answer? You’re wrong. Move on.
Rage Against The Machine – Killing In The Name Of
Maybe not joyful. Maybe not triumphant. But I remember how amazing that Xmas no1 campaign was – and I can’t ever see it happening again. Lightning in a bottle.
The Pogues (feat. Kirsty MacColl) – Fairytale of New York
It’s got to be on everyone’s list surely? When that accordion kicks in even those lacking in the festive department gear themselves up for a jolly good jig!
The Beach Boys – Little Saint Nick
I love this song so much because it’s essentially just a classic Beach Boys sound that just so happens to be lyrically about Christmas. And I love The Beach Boys. And Christmas. And Pesto Pasta but that’s not relevant.
Chris De Burgh – A Spaceman Came Travelling
That organ intro. That chorus. Those eyebrows. As a child, I remember being scared of this song! It was so grand and bellowing! In hindsight, maybe it was just the eyebrows that did the frightening.
Weezer – The Christmas Song
Because it’s a Weezer Christmas song. And I love Weezer. Obviously… Come on, have you heard my band?
Slade – Merry Xmas Everybody

Let’s end on a banger. Do I really need to explain why this is on this list? It’s the best. Always has been, always will be.
