[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Newcomer Bryde’s latest single ‘Desire’ dropped a few days ago; it’s a tune “about lust, our need for instant gratification,” and highlights the Welsh songwriter’s fearlessness and talent for tackling ultra personal subjects, getting down to the nitty-gritty of life. The follow up to early songs ‘Honey’ and ‘Wouldn’t That Make You Feel Good’, she’s gearing up for a debut album sometime next year.
Hey Bryde, how have you found 2017 so far? Has it been a good year for you?
2017 has been a rollercoaster, hasn’t it?! On a world scale and on a personal one. Mostly highs on a personal level, full of music making, touring and meeting exciting and wonderful new people.
So tell us about how you got into making music, what inspired you to start?
My family inspired me to start as well as Kylie. Two of my grandparents are quite musical, and my parents got me piano lessons which I think I asked for… then Debussy inspired me to create my own music, and it continued from there. Tori Amos, Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley helped too.
What do you most enjoy writing or singing about?
I enjoy writing about the trials, tribulations and awakenings of interacting with other humans on a level deep enough to changes me and how I see myself.
How would you like your songs to make listeners feel?
Defiant, tearful elated and understood.
What’s the most fun thing you’ve done during your time as Bryde?
Worn gold shoes in a bath in the Help Yourself Video or maybe my headline tour earlier this year with my band.
What are you working on at the mo?
The video and mini-documentary for the next single coming in January.
Do you have big plans for 2018?
There are always plans, and they are always large.
What would you most like to achieve during your music career?
I’d love to play a song or two on Later with Jools Holland.
What do you do for fun?
Snap away on my little cannon film camera, watch a lot of comedy, watch other people’s gigs, eat out.
Who do you think is the most exciting band or musician around right now?
I adore Muna, Phoebe Bridgers and an artist called Mere Child who’s on my label Seahorse Music.
Finally, tell us a secret about yourself?
I’m an open book.
