Getting to know… Treeboy & Arc

Catch the band at Shacklewell Arms in London tonight (9th November).

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Treeboy & Arc are a four-piece from Leeds, who release their debut EP ‘Not Yet’ on 1st December. Previewed so far by the tracks ‘Merge’ and ‘White’, it’s set to showcase their brooding, raucous post-punk.

George Townend (guitar), Ben Morgan (guitar/vocals/keys) and Isaac Turner (drums) – but not James Kay (bass/vocals), who’s currently “eating olives in a hot tub in the Maldives” – introduce their band.

Hey guys, how have you found 2017 so far?
2017 has been great for us so far. It’s flown by, but we’ve packed a lot in.

How did you guys get together? You formed at college, right?
We all went to the same college, but we didn’t know each other until quite far in. Initially, we met each other because we shared the same pair of socks. We had similar taste in music in a place where most of the people were listening to complete garbage pop. We became mates with Isaac at a new years party.

Are you all from Leeds originally?
Most of us are from Leeds originally, Isaac is from Somerset. He’s the exotic one.

What’s been the best thing you guys have done as Treeboy & Arc so far?
We’ve done a lot of cool stuff over the last few months. Highlights include recording the EP with MJ, making the music video was really fun and obviously playing shows. It’s been exciting to get out of our home town and play in new cities. For us, I think the best thing has been meeting all the people we’ve met. The music scene in Leeds is so good, and it’s great to feel a part of it.

What do you do for fun?
We can usually be found lurking around at the Brudenell Social Club or somewhere in Leeds. A lot of our pals play in bands and stuff, so we go to a lot of shows as well.

What would you most like to achieve during your music career?
Really we just want to keep playing shows and having fun with it for as long as we can do. It would be cool to release an album and to play some shows overseas, maybe in Europe somewhere and we’ve heard Japan can be pretty nuts.

What are you working on at the mo?
At the moment we’re just writing a bunch of new songs in preparation for future releases. We’ve changed the set up a lot recently, and we’re always looking to make it better and make our live show more exciting. Our progress with this has been somewhat hindered by the demands of raising a family of young alpacas. Boy those guys can be greedy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]Tell us about your debut EP – what’s ‘Not Yet’ about?
It’s not specifically about anything in particular. ‘Not Yet’ touches on a lot of different subjects briefly, but nothing too profound. It’s mainly just a collection of thoughts from us all at the time that we were writing the music. I guess in that way it’s about being a youth in Leeds.

What are you all up to over the festive season? Are you going to buy each other Christmas presents?
We don’t believe in organised holidays. And we’re too poor anyway.

What’s been your fave album of 2017?
King Gizzard have released about 27 albums this year, and they’re all pretty great. Autobahn just dropped their new album, and that’s good too. We’re excited for Hookworms’ new album to come out. Other notable mentions include Protomartyr, Moonlandingz and Ulrika Spacek.

Do you have any plans for 2018 yet?
Not yet…
