Getting to know… Trudy and the Romance

Following recent single ‘Sandman’, get to know this Liverpudlian trio a little better.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Scrappy young ‘uns Trudy and the Romance have just got back off tour with Dork faves (and former cover stars) The Big Moon. We interrupt Olly waiting for his dad to finish making chicken soup (rock’n’roll), so he can answer a few questions about his Trudy boys.

Hey Olly, you’ve just come back off touring with The Big Moon – how was it? Are you guys best buds now?
Hold back seal pups. Yeah we had an amazing time, lovely girls, still have their songs in my noggin’. However no word from the girls since. Did we do something wrong? Waiting on a Christmas card. They’re in the States now, can’t wait to do that.

Are you well behaved on tour? Tell us a story from your time on the road.
Can’t remember anything, apart from her… What was her name? What makes her groove? Do I even cross her mind?

What’s your favourite way to pass the time when you’re not on stage or travelling up a motorway?
I like watching films. Watched Jack Reacher 2: Never Go Back last week, took Lewis for the ride, was so bad it wasn’t even good. I’ve seen Blue Velvet is playing in Cinemas again soon. That’ll be good.

What first got you into making music? Has it been a long-held ambition?
I didn’t do much growing up, I was just a knob really. Wanted to do it since my sweet sixteen. When a babe crushes your heart there’s nothing else you can do. “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There’s also a negative side.” Hunter S. Thompson. Is that true Dork? [Miserable bastard – Ed.]

What’s it like being a new band from Liverpool at the moment? Is there much going on there?
We spent six cruel happy months there. Was the perfect place to set up shop. We just didn’t know how to look after ourselves after college. Befriended Her’s and Pink Kink. Pink Kink sometimes come on stage with us to sing ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ by the Beatles. You gotta see that Dork.

What’s your favourite topic to write songs about?
Girls, sandmen, cupid, home and coming of age. Would like our album to be a naff story, a love-triangle fairytale kinda thing. With a dream girl, high-school sweetheart, cupid and a sandman. Something to dig your teeth into.

How would you describe the band’s ‘vibe’?
Retro, totally on a retro vibe, like old retro, new retro, fast retro, slow retro. Haha, somebody said that on X Factor. It makes you laugh and cry in equal measure. It’s melancholic and a little dreamy, catchy and loud when it needs to be.

What was your favourite album from 2016, and why?
Lemon Twigs – ‘Do Hollywood’. They’re fun, fresh and tasty. Will hopefully catch them at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds.

What’s the most exciting thing you have planned for over the next few months?
It’s gonna be a busy December. We won’t be gigging much, but will be sorting an EP, Album and a bunch of Music videos. My Dad also just got his 4-track tape Portastudio fixed… So hopefully we’ll learn how to wizard that and get some zany home recordings out into the Blue world.

Who do you think will be the biggest new band of 2017?
Don’t care Dorks. We do love these lot though: Happyness, Lemon Twigs, Pink Kink and Her’s. Looking forward to the second Happyness album, Her’s 1st and Pink Kinks 1st releases. Also gigged lately with a band called Abattoir Blues, wearing their shirt at the mo. Puma Blue are cool too.

Trudy and the Romance play The Finsbury in London tonight (Friday, 25th November).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
