Getting to know… Anteros

Introducing your next big Bitter Dream Pop crush. If you want to know more, you’re buying ‘Breakfast’.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Pop is not a dirty word. Obviously it isn’t – the underground and mainstream have never sailed closely together. That’s good news for rising London newcomers Anteros, who sail perfectly between the lines. Sleek and bittersweet, it’s neither obvious nor obtuse. Take recent single ‘Breakfast’, sounding both familiar and fresh in the same breath. It sets a marker on a band hitting all the right notes.

So much so, that we felt it was time to get to know the band a bit better. After all, if they’re inviting us round for Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, it’d be rude not to.

Hello Anteros. Who is it we’re speaking to, and what are we interrupting?
Laura & Joshua, we’re just waiting to soundcheck at The Kookie in Leicester.

You’ve not long released your new single ‘Breakfast’. What can you tell us about it?
We wrote this song last summer. I (Laura) was seeing someone who only wanted to stay up and talk about his problems all the time, especially at night. One night I realised this wasn’t going to go anywhere- there was no need to dwell on it, or talk about it for hours.

Do you have many songs in your arsenal? Any that are particularly important to you?
We’d like to think we do..! All of our songs have special meanings to us, as they come from real experiences. We’re finishing up our next single, which should be out just in time for Summer.

You played your first live date just six months ago – how was it? Did it go as planned?
Yeah it did! We were quite nervous, but everything was fine. We had a great night and it was an awesome first gig to play.

Is there anything you’ve since learnt that you wish you knew at the time?
Of course, there’s always things you learn from every gig, but that’s what makes it fun. I (Laura) used to get really nervous 24hours before a gig, but luckily I had the guys to snap me out of it in time.

If Anteros had a motto, what would it be?
That’s perfect then, isn’t it? (A bit of an in-joke)

What do you hope to have achieved by the end of the year?
Ahhhh there’s still so much of this year left! Obviously the sky’s the limit, but we’re trying to focus on the present. We feel like we’ve spent so much time thinking of the future, that we haven’t been enjoying the day to day life of what we’re doing. We just want to have fun & be able to do this for as long as we can.

Anything else we should know?
What would ya like to know? We can tell you over breakfast.
