Pulled Apart By Horses are about to release their new album; the follow up to 2014’s ‘Blood’, ‘The Haze’ prompted them to decamp from bustling Leeds to a tiny, remote cottage on a dairy farm in the Welsh countryside, soundtracked by both old heroes such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop, and modern classics, like Arctic Monkeys – as guitarist James Brown explains with his new ‘inspirations’ playlist.
“This compilation is a little bit of an insight into some of the tunes that we were enjoying whilst writing and recording our new record, ‘The Haze’,” says James.
“It’s a hefty mix of old classics and some of the newer stuff that we’ve been excited about. It’s all quite lively!
“Bowie has been a big influence on each of us growing up. We spent a lot of time last year going through his back catalogue, remembering old favourites and discovering gems that we hadn’t heard before. At the time of writing the new record Tommy was playing ‘Low’ in our practice room on repeat, the whole record is genius but ‘Breaking Glass’ is a particularly infectious track.
“Iggy Pop, The Godfather of Punk Rock. How do you choose what to pick?! ‘The Idiot’ and ‘Lust For Life’ are stand out albums that soundtracked a lot of our downtime through the writing process. We couldn’t resist including a Stooges track as well. So vital, raw and captivating.
“‘R U Mine?’ by Arctic Monkeys was produced by Ross Orton who also recorded and produced ‘The Haze’. It’s an absolute belter of a track! There’s so much energy and that guitar knocks you over every time it kicks in.
“Enjoy yourselves and get stuck in!”
