ROAM: “We try to add some kind of fun twist for our festival sets”

ROAM are heading to Slam Dunk this weekend.

If you’re a fan of rock music, you’re probably gonna be hyped about Slam Dunk.

This year’s line-up has legit legends Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte, barnstormers PVRIS, Frank Carter & his Rattlesnakes, Taking Back Sunday, Twin Atlantic, the awesome Creeper, Every Time I Die and loads, loads more. Held across three legs over three days in Leeds, Hatfield and Birmingham, it’s a late May bank holiday delight not to miss.

So, Dork sent our Slam Dunk Q&A to a few of the bands playing to figure out their plan for clean pants and stuff. Next up, ROAM.

Hey Miles, how’s it going?
I’m all good thanks.

What have you guys been up to so far this year, are you having a good 2018?
We’ve just got home from a two week UK/Europe tour with Tonight Alive which has been super fun. It was cool for us to have a main support slot on that kind of tour as we had a longer set, meaning we were able to delve a little deeper and could play some more songs from our latest record. In addition to that, we had an awesome start to the year touring with Knuckle Puck in Australia. I’d say that Australia is probably collectively our favourite country to visit/tour so it was great to be back there. We also played UNIFY Festival while we were there which was an absolute blast.

Are you ready for festival season? How do you prepare, is it just lots of rehearsing and stocking up on clean pants?
Yeah, pretty much just lots of rehearsing; we normally try and add some kind of fun twist for a festival set, so it’s fun trying to figure out whatever that is going to be.

Do you have anything interesting on your rider for shows and festivals?
Not particularly, just the usual food and beers/waters. I kinda want to start putting socks on there though as it’s impossible to pack enough clean pairs, especially for a long tour.

How do you cope with all the travel of touring, it must get a bit boring stuck on planes and buses all the time?
Yeah, it can be a drag for sure. We ended up playing a lot of cards on this last tour which was good because it gets everyone involved and interrupts the mindless brain-numbing phone scrolling. Also, Netflix have a super cool feature where you can save stuff offline to watch on an iPad / phone on the move which has been a bit of a lifesaver.

What else do you guys have coming up?
Not much that I can tell you about right now but expect a lot more shows / touring.

Slam Dunk will take place in Leeds, Hatfield and Birmingham from 26th-28th May.
