In Dork’s December/January issue (feat. The 1975, out now), we tackled a bunch of our favourite new bands – the ones whose gigs buzz with excitement, who inspire more devotion in their fans than Emmerdale does from our grans, and who will undoubtedly make 2017 special. Ed Nash – aka Toothless – has some fun stuff planned for this year.
How have you found 2016 so far? What was the most exciting thing that happened for Toothless?
That’s a hard one… Everything that has happened to Toothless has happened within 2016! In April I went to LA with Chris Coady while he mixed the first half of the album. I’ve always been a huge fan of his work and it was a privilege to work with him.
What do you think has been the biggest music-related news story of 2016?
It has been a pretty eventful year in the music world so let’s not forget the time that Kanye took to Twitter to ask Mark Zuckerberg for 1 billion dollars.
What song would you crown banger of the year?
Radiohead – ‘Burn The Witch’. I’m not sure I would consider this a banger but it’s certainly my favourite song of the year. The production and string arrangements on this song are absolutely insane! I really thought that Radiohead weren’t going to pull it back after ‘The King of Limbs’.
What’s the most exciting thing about launching a new music project right now?
It’s great to have a completely blank slate again! With Bombay there were things that I wished we had done differently at the start… most notably the band name and logo. Thank god I don’t have to explain Bombay Bicycle Club to people anymore.
What can you tell us about your upcoming debut album? How would you describe its vibe?
All killer, no filler.
If you could wave a magic wand and have one thing of your choosing happen in 2017, what would it be?
I would love to play Glastonbury with Toothless before it moves from Worthy Farm.
Do you have any resolutions for 2017?
I got real fat and unhealthy over the past year and a half while writing the Toothless album. I spent most of my time sitting around in my studio eating food. I guess my resolution is to be less fat…
Who do you think will be the biggest new band of 2017?
Julia Jacklin is absolutely killing it. Her album is amazing and I feel like she is just getting started. [sc name=”stopper” ]
