Just like glasses, tents can be either half full or half empty, depending on your view. Though Blaenavon’s audience seems to perfectly tread the line of tent measurement, it’s the band who take it in their hands to decide the fate of their set.
From oldie ‘Into the Night’ through ‘Prague’ and ‘I Will Be The World’, the trio almost lull you at times, and once they’ve got you a little bit too comfortable, they throw everything in the tank at you, a wall of noise and Ben’s powerhouse voice filling the tent. They flit between the two sides so effortlessly it’s kind of surprising there isn’t more people being drawn in by the racket as they walk by.
They say they’re three boys with a story to tell; well, it’s a story that you quite simply want to listen to. It’s loud and interesting and, frankly, feels bigger than the stage they were playing. So how did their set fare through the lens of that dodgy tent measurement analogy? We’ll let you guess.
