Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace on why relying on legacy is a bad idea

Bad news for anyone currently putting out shitters.

Against Me!’s new album ‘Shape Shift With Me’ is bloody brilliant – and it’s a good thing too, because the band’s Laura Jane Grace has strong opinions about relying on legacy.

“I really believe you’re only as good as the last song you wrote,” she explains in the new issue of Dork. “You’re only as good as the last show you played, so it’s really only that far back for me. I want to do another. I want a chance to do it better than that last one.”

And as for feeling the burden of expectations: “I can only be myself. I can’t live to be good for other people’s expectations or facilitate other people’s expectations or what they think I should be like, because they’d just truly be disappointed.”
