Los Angeles-based duo Bad Wave have released a new video for ’1955’ – check it out below, first on Dork.
The clip sees them looking back to the track’s titular year, utilising archive footage to tell the story of a holiday adventure.
“For the ‘1955’ video we started by searching for old footage from the year 1955,” the band explain. “We found all kinds of weird and interesting clips and planned on mixing and matching them together into some kind of visual collage.
“But there was one video in particular, a Pan Am infomercial, that we were especially drawn to. It was longer than the others, and had more of a story arc, and it ended up being the only footage we used for the entire video. Then we came up with this idea of showing the story from two simultaneous angles, like seeing the girl and what she’s seeing at the same time.
“Finally we decided to superimpose ourselves over the whole thing to give it even more layers to look at. That’s sort of how music videos go sometimes; you start putting pieces together, not sure what the bigger picture is, but confident that it’ll take form on its own. I guess that’s a metaphor for America too.”
