It’s nearly Christmas, which means it’s time to break out the Low festive classics and remind ourselves that not all alternative takes on the seasonal song are absolutely unbearable.
That’s a line that Hippo Campus clearly stick to, with their cover of Low’s classic ‘Last Snowstorm of the Year’. The band’s version even has Low’s Alan Sparhawk on guitar, so that’s an official seal of approval, right there.
Discussing their choice of song, the band explain; “Alan Sparhawk invited us to play their upcoming Christmas show and figured it’d be neat to cover this song, which just so happened to be lyrically relevant to what we endured last winter as a band, as well as fellow Minnesotans. Much love to BJ Burton and Alan for the collaboration. Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays.”
The cover follows Hippo Campus recent AA-side release ‘boyish/monsoon’, with a debut album ‘landmark’ set to drop on February 24th via Transgressive, alongside a short UK run early next year.
‘landmark’ was written and recorded over the past twelve months and produced by the fast-rising BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Francis & The Lights, Low). Check out the tracklisting, and those live dates, below.
