Sounds the alarms, ring the church bells – Declan McKenna has dropped a freshly squeezed new banger right into the world with ‘The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home’.
Debuted as Mistajam’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’ last night (January 10th), it’s a barn-storming anthem born to be blared out wherever you are – marking Deccers out as an undeniable voice of a generation and stamping his flag into the ground with such force that it’ll shake you in your shoes.
Speaking to Mistajam about the track, Declan explained on the air that “it’s generally about the frustrations of being a young person in the modern world, there’s a lot of scary things going on that people are concerned about it’s about finding hope and looking towards the future. The song came together when I was in Paris around the time of the attacks and the day after I kinda realised that I now felt the emotions that I was trying to put into this song and it all became quite real for me. That kinda fear and frustration but also a longing for change”.
It’s bound to go down a-bloody-storm when he hits the road over the next few months – kicking off by supporting Cage The Elephant at the end of January before heading out on his own run of big-time headline shows from January 23rd and including nights in Norwich, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Brighton, Oxford and London over the next couple of months (probably easier just to have a look at the full run below instead of following us on that – we’re too excited to type).
