If there’s a band looking to make a pretty loud bang, then it’s definitely Drones Club – who have unveiled a full-throttle new number in the form of ‘Chelsea Manning’.
Teaming up with alt-checker Georgia, the track is bursting at the seams with passion and energy, hurtling through house-infused melodies and rattling daggers of synth that encompass you in one swoop. No matter where you turn, ‘Chelsea Manning’ is larger than life and ready for a fight.
Talking about the track, and the subject of former US army soldier Chelsea Manning, the band said:
“As simply and directly as possible we want to draw attention to the plight of Chelsea Manning, the former US army solider who shed light on the darkness at the heart of western civilisation and made our world brighter. Now she is undergoing gender transformation in solitary confinement in a military prison. A heroine, a saint, branded a traitor and isolated from the world she helped.”
The track is “a song of joy, of light over darkness; a message across the sea letting the loneliest girl in the world know she is not and never will be alone.”
All proceeds from the track are set to be donated to the Chelsea Manning Support Network.
Drones Club have got pretty big ambitions, as we found out recently when we chatted to the London collective – you can read more on that here.
With one of the most mind-bending live shows going (see masked actors, guerrilla shows and protests), it’ll be pretty foolish to miss out on their headline slot at The Great Escape’s First Fifty at the end of the month – calling into London’s Old Blue Last on November 24th.
