Ellie from Wolf Alice speaks out about the Bands4Refugees shows

“We stand in solidarity with the refugees, we want Britain to rediscover its benevolence’”

We’re always up for a great gig, especially if it’s for an amazing cause – and with Bands 4 Refugees, we think we’ve found the ultimate pair of nights to head down to.

Speaking about the nights to Time Out, Ellie Roswell of Wolf Alice explained how the idea for the shows, where a series of supergroup bands come together to perform a range of covers (with appearances confirmed from members of Wolf Alice themselves, Slaves, Peace, Years & Years, Swim Deep, Superfood, Black Honey, Spector and Dream Wife amongst others), all came together:

“The idea came after seeing members of Peace and Superfood perform hits for their friends’ birthday – as part of a supergroup called Radical Lasagne. When the Calais Jungle was being demolished I thought: Why aren’t people talking about this all the time? It was weird that it wasn’t being seen as the biggest fucking emergency”

“I wondered how I could help. I have more Twitter followers than many people in the government and I have all these friends in bands who care. We have this platform. It’s so simple. Put on a night that I would want to go to”

Explaining that the night will see a core band made up of members from Wolf Alice and Swim Deep being joined by a range of guitarists and singers, Ellie went on to talk about her own thoughts on the crisis, saying that it had “opened her eyes to a frightening realisation about the severe lack of compassion amongst the British people”

“That’s why we started Bands4Refugees to reiterate that we stand in solidarity with the refugees, that we want Britain to rediscover its benevolence and that we can come together to echo these feelings until our government finds its sense of urgency in what is the worst refugee crisis since World War 2”

Tickets for both of the Bands4Refugees shows, taking place on December 4th and 5th at London’s Kamio are now sold out, but you can still donate to the cause by heading to the link here.
