Everything’s going to hell with Sigur Rós’ new Icelandic arts festival

Norður og Niður wasn’t a new record after all.

Turns out that thing Sigur Rós were teasing over the weekend was nothing to do with new albums after all. Instead, it’s a new Icelandic ‘arts event’.

Titled Norður og Niður, it’ll take place in Reykjavik between December 26th and 31st.

A press release explains that Norður og Niður means ‘go north and go down’, but a more accurate translation would be ‘everything’s going to hell’. Seems a pretty apt name, all considered.

The six day event will take over arts venue Harpa with performances, art installations and more, and will include four shows from Sigur Rós between December 27th and 20th in the venue’s main hall, Eldborg. They’ll be the band’s first dates in Iceland in five years.
