Ezra Furman has gone and captured our bloody hearts again, with the next great campfire anthem ‘The Refugee’.
The number is taken from Furman’s ‘Big Fugitive Life’ EP, his first new material since the breakout success of latest LP ‘Perpetual Motion People’ and packed full of everything that makes Furman so bloody special.
Speaking how the poignant and personal track, Furman said:
“‘The Refugee’ [is] my first song entirely concerned with my Jewish background and present, a song dedicated to my grandfather who fled the Nazis as well as to all of the refugees desperate for a home today,”
“Though the song starts in a “frosty green Poland”, it ends up somewhere universal, the lyrics no longer restrained to just a single person’s story. We dedicate this record to refugees of all kinds, all over the world. May all the wanderers find the homes they seek, and and may those with power welcome them as fellow citizens of humanity.”
‘Big Fugitive Life’ is set to drop this Friday (August 19th) with Ezra Furman in the midst of a bunch of UK dates, set to include appearances at Green Man, Reading & Leeds and End Of The Road, along with headline stops in Bath and Preston amongst others. Furman will then return to the UK for a huge Halloween show at London’s Roundhouse.
