Dave Bayley of Glass Animals has done himself an injury.
Writing on Facebook, the band’s frontman explains: “During the first song of our last show in Chile, I managed to fall off a bit of staging. Something felt a bit funny in my leg, but I continued ‘dancing’ like a maniac as usual and we finished the show. It was only after the set ended that i realised my foot had swollen up to the size of a melon, but with toes poking out of it like little teets. Drew and Ed carried me to a hospital and as it turns out i’d bloody broken my ankle! A ‘calcaneal fracture’ for you medics.”
He continues: “I’m on crutches and in a bad ass medical boot/cast thing for 8 weeks. Hopefully by mid-June i’ll be back to nearly normal levels of climbing, kicking and ‘dancing.’ Until then, i may have to spend some time off my feet. BUT…we will not cancel any shows, and I will still give all that i have every night. After initially being very bummed, I’m now incredibly excited by trying to find ways to make these coming dates special and at least as energetic as before, but in a different way. We have some cool ideas.”
Those cool ideas include “the world’s first disco ball medical boot”, and a “stage throne” (though that’s already been done). “I’m going to deck out my wheelchair with hydraulics and spinners,” Dave suggests. “Maybe a fin”.
Glass Animals are set to play Reading and Leeds this August Bank Holiday, by which time they should be back up to full strength.
