The hacker who got his way into Tame Impala and Bon Iver’s Twitter accounts over the past few days has identified himself, claiming he’s only trying to help.
The Canadian, going by the name of J5Z, also hacked into the accounts of George Harrison, Keith Richards and Cody Simpson.
“I’m not here to cause harm,” the alleged hacker told The Daily Beast. “I’m here to help people.”
Operating under the now suspended handle @j5zlol, they claim they’re “not here to cause harm,” but instead are “here to help people.”
“At first I did this for fun, but I never wanted to do this to ruin people’s careers,” the user said. “I’m just doing it to prevent that from ever happening in case someone who knows how to do it comes along and possibly does some damage. I don’t want to be seen as a bad person, even though I’m most likely being seen like that already.”
Obviously they claim to have had nothing to do with the bomb threats sent out through Tame Impala’s account (that was a ‘friend’). Neither did they know George Harrison was dead when they advised him to DM if they wanted some tips on improving their security.
“Well shit,” they exclaimed. “I hacked someone and I didn’t even know they was dead… my bad”.
