Finnish trio Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? dropped latest single ‘Bambi Act’ just before Christmas.
Today they debut the ramshackle new video for it, too – two-ish minutes of mayhem and good times.
The band explain: “We had this idea of music video about our regular day: Eggs for breakfast, watching movies, street hockey and band rehearsals in the evening. It’s presented pretty accurately in the video.
“This is Kouvola! Our beloved small town in south-east Finland, and this is our thing: rock ‘n roll and ice hockey. The pillow fight sequence is an allegory for how we are dealing with each other in our (sur)real lives, and what’s going on when we’re making music – joyful playfulness with the constant thread of someone getting hurt.
“In terms of writing ‘Bambi Act’, we would come home from touring on a Sunday afternoon – tired and hungover, and get our gear from the car, set it up and record a demo for a new song on the spot. First edition of “Bambi Act” was done in this way. I had the chords and some kind of a singing melody (which is a total rip off of a Canadian born songwriter – not Neil Young, but keep on guessing). Then as it always happens, it comes together with Susse nailing it with her interpretation on vocals and, Janne Petteri doing his mad man manoeuvres on the drums.”
Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS?’s forthcoming second album ‘Jazzbelle 1984/1988’ is out on 19th January, and they’ll play Are You Listening? Festival in Reading on 28th April.
