Last week, Bastille dropped the first track from their new album.
Titled ‘Quarter Past Midnight’, it’s the initial taster for a record that currently has no name, that will be with us some time before November. Dan Smith promises.
Firmly into the promo cycle, the band called in at Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show (i.e. your Mum and Dad can like them too – Ed) this weekend, performing the track in session.
While there, they also performed a mash-up featuring music from Destiny’s Child (‘Say My Name’), Christina Aguilera (‘Genuine In A Bottle’) and Justin Timberlake (‘Cry Me A River’). Apparently, they want you to cry like river and then rub them “the right way” – not sure about that as a message, lads.
There’s also a bit of Fatboy Slim’s ‘Praise You’, a bassline from ‘The Currents’ (which doesn’t count, apparently) and a guitar part from Dr. Dre’s ‘Xxplosive’.
