It’s here. After days of mystique and buggering about, Radiohead have finally dropped the first song from their forthcoming ninth album.
‘Burn The Witch’, with a stop motion video and sweeping, claustrophobic strings, is a return to something closer to classic Radiohead. It’s not packing a ‘The Bends’ era massive chorus, sure, but there’s a sneaking, paranoid warmth to it which marks out a band at their organic best.
‘Burn The Witch’ will be available to buy at 00:01 on May 4th (that’s tomorrow morning) – you can check out the artwork below. The video was directed by Chris Hopewell, and produced by Jacknife.
The track follows some creepy messages sent to fans over the weekend, and the blanking out of the band’s online presence late on Sunday night. This morning, they were teasing us with short video clips. Now, they’re back. With live dates set to kick off before the end of the month, this circus is only just getting started.
