Holy Family have dropped their new single ‘Empty Gestures’ – check it out below, first on Dork. It’s an introspective pop number, with soaring vocals and brilliantly catchy “ooooh”s, that builds to an emphatic realisation.
Who doesn’t love a good “ooooh”?
“’Empty Gestures’ is about the effects of moving to a big city from a smaller one,” explains Viktor. “I wrote it when I was 19 and a friend visited me from the small island where I grew up after I had moved to Gothenburg.
“There is an underlying pretence when you transition to a big city where vanity tricks you into feeling like you made the right choice. Seeing someone from back home can be both humbling and terrifying. You try your best to portray your latest triumphs and you realize that the friend doesn’t actually care if you have succeeded and that it doesn’t really matter anyway. I wanted to portray that feeling.”
‘Empty Gestures’ is taken from the band’s new album ‘Values’, due out on 25th August.
