You may have noticed Dork likes a bit of new music. Over our first four issues we’ve had our fair share of brill new bands on the cover, from Spring King on their debut album through to the madcap circus of The Big Moon and the rambunctious touring mayhem of Black Honey and Dream Wife. It’s not that we’re only concerned with the shiny or new (heck, keep it quiet, but we’ve got one of the biggest bands in the world on December’s cover – Ed), but rather we like to head to the most exciting thing in the room and hang onto it like a desperate puppy. Or someone really, really cool. Let’s stick with that one.
This month, we’re doing no different. If someone gave us a bit of paper and asked us to write down who’s the most exciting new act in the world, there’s a pretty decent chance we’d say The Japanese House. With a new EP out this month, we’ve never been more convinced that Amber Bain is the sort of unique, once in a generation talent that you stick on magazine covers. So that’s exactly what we’ve done.
That’s not all though. The nights may be drawing in, but the temperature is rising. Honeyblood have delivered an album of such mind-bending brilliance we had to invite them to the party. JAWS‘ second full-length is the kind of step up that needs a ladder to even catch a glimpse of – they’re in too. Sleigh Bells and their unholy din make the cut, obviously, as does Sadie Dupuis’ new Sad13 guise – she’s delivered an absolute gem of a record. VANT are off on tour too, so obviously we catch up with Mattie. Why wouldn’t we?
We chat through the albums we’re expecting in 2017, including getting deeper into forthcoming records from Temples, Lower Than Atlantis and Kagoule, as well as catch up with TOY and Palace as they release new full-lengths of their own. Elsewhere we delve into the anatomy of a banger with Creeper, take A Day In The Life Of…. Will Joseph Cook, and get Public Access TV‘s guide to New York.
