Kaytranada has scooped this year’s Polaris Music Prize, being awarded the prize for this year’s acclaimed debut ’99.9%’
Beating off stiff competition from the likes of fellow nominees Grimes, Carly Rae Jepsen, Pup, White Lung and Basia Bulat amongst others, with the prize recognising the best in Canadian music for that past year and based solely on ‘artistic merit’.
So basically the Mercurys – without Skepta’s mum dancing.
Speaking on-stage, Kaytranada said:
‘For me, it’s crazy to get this award. It’s really, truly, a big honor. It’s amazing. Shout-outs to all of y’all. I want to thank the judges and everybody for voting for me’
’99.9%’ was released earlier in the year, and features collaborations with the likes of Craig David, AlunaGeorge, Vic Mensa, Little Dragon and many more – all tipping their hat to the grooving beats of the producing maestro.
