LCD Soundsystem’s Gavin Russom has come out as transgender in a new interview with Grindr.
Russom, who plays synth and sings backing vocals, explains she has identified as a woman for most of her life, and has recently told her bandmates of her transition.
She reveals she’s made her decision due to LCD’s forthcoming tour dates, as she “could not imagine” spending the next year pretending to be someone she’s not. “My body rejected it in the same way that it now utterly rejects going into a men’s bathroom or when somebody calls me ‘sir,’” she explains.
Her bandmates have been “really supportive” about the transition, with “the general feeling in the group” being that it “will make the band better”. Since coming out, Russom claims she’s felt more connected to the music, and is “the happiest” she’s ever been.
