We love a good gang. Us vs the world, that kind of stuff. Especially when it’s not a bunch of boring lads with haircuts from ‘the past’ and a sound even more dated. That’s why we absolutely love what Marika Hackman has done with her new album ‘I’m Not Your Man’.
Not only is it packed with fizzwhoppers, but by enlisting The Big Moon as her new posse, she’s assembled the coolest club in pop. When it came to this month’s cover (online from this Friday, 12th May, with physical copies distributed over the following week, FYI – Ed), getting them together made perfect sense, so that’s what we did. Especially when it meant we could get someone else to transcribe it all (thanks, Celia!).
Add to that introductions to Alma, The Rhytmn Method, Tired Lion, Artificial Pleasure, The Orielles, Shitkid and Matt Maltese in a packed Hype, reports from the road with Charli XCX, Dream Wife and Blaenavon, and the verdict on all the new releases, including the new album from Alt-J, and you’d think we’d be done. You’d be wrong though. There’s also Sundara Karma‘s guide to Reading, a day in the life with Girli, CHVRCHES are inducted to our All Time Ultimate Bangers hall of fame, and Circa Waves take on our random Any Other Questions.
Oh, and we’ve stuck in posters of Blaenavon, The Big Moon and Get Inuit too. Thank us later.
Sold? We thought so. June’s Dork will be available from this Friday, 12th May. Pre-order a copy using the form below and we’ll post one direct to your door. Alternatively you can subscribe to Dork for 12 months, and if you use the code 5OFFSUBSCRIBE we’ll give you a fiver off. That’s absolutely the best way to support what we’re doing, and means you’ll get every issue of the mag and festival guide direct to your door for the next year.
You’ll also be able to read the issue online and via the Dork iOS and Android apps – search your app store for those now.
