MGMT usher in a ‘Little Dark Age’

They’ve teased it for a while, but the first taste of their upcoming fourth album is finally here

Yesterday, oddball New Englanders MGMT shared the lyrics for the title track of their upcoming fourth album ‘Little Dark Age’, having shared a brief, 10-second snippet of the song at the tail end of last week. Such teasers!

Now, VanWyngarden and Goldwasser have finally let us hear the whole thing, and all of those gloomy (“I grieve in stereo / the stereo sounds strange”) but icily funky synthpop flourishes are matched by a suitably gothy clip – all vivid red apples, candlesticks and gratuitously backcombed barnets – and you can take a look at it in the player below.

Coming a good four years since their self-titled third LP, ‘Little Dark Age’ will arrive in the early part of next year, produced by Patrick Wimberly of the much-missed Chairlift, along with a returning Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, The Cribs, Spoon…)
