Ahead of the release of their fourteenth (!) studio album, Georgian psychedelic-indie-pop outfit of Montreal have released a typically fabulous video for lead single, ‘It’s Different For Girls’.
While the song is a gentle critique of sexism and how it persists in contemporary society – “for every one psychobitch, there’s ten thousand aggro pricks, it’s different for girls” – the video is a much more celebratory affair (and a very sparkly dance party we wish we’d been invited to).
And Kevin Barnes is determined to make sure the message is as inclusive as possible: “The ‘girls’ I’m singing about in the song aren’t exclusively of the biologically female variety. It’s more of a paean to all the wild-hearted counter culture groups of our species. In a way I feel like most of us transition back and forth, psychologically, between female and male and that sexual identity is a fluid concept.”
‘Innocence Reaches’ is out August 12th.
