New indie heroes award announced

INDIE50 is designed to celebrate unsung idols of live music at a grassroots level.

A new award for unsung indie heroes has been announced.

WeGotTickets unveiled the campaign, titled INDIE50, to celebrate unsung idols of live music at a grassroots level – aiming to highlight those who operate outside of major organisations and have an impact on specific local scenes.

Nominations can be submitted via the website indie50.com, with organisers explaining: “Whether it be influential club promoters, managers, bookers, sound engineers, journalists, even the door person at your local venue, INDIE50 looks to celebrate some of the personalities working at the grassroots level that help make the UK’s world-renowned live scene so fertile.

“Some names might not be familiar to everyone, but their contributions will have been felt by many. Every breaking artist has at one time been championed by someone close to home. It’s these people and their efforts in the face of an ever more aggressive market that warrant recognition beyond a local level, and we’re here to give it.”

Winners will be announced in August, with the final fifty honoured with a photographic exhibition.
