Is new music from The Avalanches coming this week?

Maybe. Possibly. We don’t really want to commit here, obviously.

Could it be? Could there finally be new material from The Avalanches coming this week? Maybe.

Last night the enigmatic group – who released their only album ‘Since I Left You’ back in 2000, dropped a teaser for something, designed to look like a documentary trailer for a film titled ‘Since They Left Us’. Featuring numerous artists who have previously linked to the fabled new Avalanches album, Danny Brown, Ariel Pink and Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux all appear. There’s also a brief cameo from Father John Misty, delivering the typically dry line “Um, what are The Avalanches?”

The clip follows the band’s live comeback, with festival appearances and the odd headline date announced earlier this year. That all starts to kick off in the next month.

But that’s not the most interesting part. As usual, Reddit has been on the case. Apparently, if you Shazam the song that starts about 1:20 into the video, you get a result for ‘The Wizord of Iz’ by BRAINZ. If you then hunt around a bit, you may come across a release from an artist named Brainz planned for this Friday, titled ‘Frank Sinatra’.

Still with us?

So, this ‘Frank Sinatra’ release also, by coincidence, shares a title with a track Danny Brown has previously claimed to have worked on with… yep…. you got it, The Avalanches.

So, new music on Friday. Whatever gets us through the week, right?
