Orlando Weeks has announced a one-off live performance of ‘The Gritterman’

The page-turner will be taking over London’s Union Chapel on December 12th

This year has been a bit of a busy one for Orlando Weeks, first rounding things out with The Maccabees who bowed out after some farewell shows in July, then releasing his debut book ‘The Gritterman’ last month – and now he’s rounding it all with a one-off live performance of the book in December.

Taking place at London’s Union Chapel on December 12th, the performance will find Orlando bringing the book (and its accompanying musical album) to life backed by a full band and a choir. Just as he did on the album, comedian and all-round nice chap Paul Whitehouse will also be on hand to narrate the book on stage – making it an essential date in the diary this December-time.

Speaking about ‘The Gritterman’ in this month’s magazine, Orlando detailed how his love for story-telling and illustrations had always been there – finally having an outlet. “I started writing stories a few years ago. It wasn’t for anything; I just realised it was a way of spending time that would otherwise be wasted on tour. There’s so much hanging around. It felt like a good way of getting to the end of the day and feeling like I’d done more than just do the gig. After a while, you start feeling like you need to do more stuff.”

You can catch up on our full chat with Orlando here, with tickets for the one-off Union Chapel show on sale from Friday (October 13th). Lets just say we’ll be book-ing our tickets pretty sharpish.
