We swooned right over ourselves when we first heard QTY leave their mark on the world last year, and now they’re at it again with latest smoother ‘Dress/Undress’.
The duo (made up of Dan Lardner and Alex Niemetz) pick things up right where they left them on ‘Rodeo’ and ‘World Breaker’ – swaggering with an oozing charm that takes the golden sounds of late 70s New York garage-rock and shines it right up for 2017, instantly classic in its every twist.
Speaking about the track, QTY said: “‘Dress/Undress’ was one of the first songs written as QTY and speaks to the anxieties, routines and amusements of our day-to-day life. The title is used as a metaphor for what comes between dressing in the morning and undressing at night, two bookends in the daily routine, like lying awake in bed going over all that self-doubt, knowing it’s all trivial and you’ll start again in the morning.”
“This is the only QTY song not entirely written inside my apartment – the verses coming from here and the outro from recounting hairy memories of taking in whatever was offered out in San Francisco. The chorus is from recording in London with Bernard as the song took on its true and final form.”
That Bernard would be a certain Bernard Butler of Suede fame, who’s produced QTY’s hotly anticipated debut album – due to land at some point later in the year. The duo described working with Bernard as a “dream come true” when we caught up with them at the start of the year (which you can read all about here)
