Oh dear. It looks like Ryan Adams is throwing insults at The Strokes.
Both acts were key in the early 00s New York indie scene – something documented in Lizzy Goodman’s recent ‘Meet Me in the Bathroom’. In it, there’s mention of the time The Strokes had a band meeting to ban former pal Adams from hanging around – mostly because guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. was suffering from drug addiction and Ryan Adams, y’know, wasn’t exactly helping.
If we were betting, we’d guess Ryan just got to that bit of the book.
Over the course of a few hours, Adams tweeted (then deleted) messages to both Hammond (“Albert Hammond is a more horrible songwriter than his dad. If that’s possible.”) and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas (“Who got you strung out on lasagna, tho?”), before laying into the band’s recent output (“Last Impressions of Actual Songs”, “I should have forced them to get addicted to writing better songs.”).
You can’t read the tweets anymore, but basically…
