Skepta has won the Mercury Prize for his album ‘Konnichiwa’.
The ceremony took place tonight (Thursday, 15th September), with David Bowie the strong favourite for months beforehand. Skepta also beat out competition from Radiohead, The 1975, Bat For Lashes, Laura Mvula and Anohni, among others.
This year’s Mercury Prize shortlist was the first to include an album voted for by the public, who picked The 1975 from the initial twelve to automatically go through to a final six, before the panel chose the eventual winner.
Live sets on the night included actor Michael C. Hall performing Bowie’s ‘Lazarus’.
