Slowcoaches have released a video for their abrasive new single ‘Complex’, which you can check out via the player below.
Bassist and singer Heather Perkins says the song, switching in an instant from bass-led, ominous crawl to thundering tirade, was inspired by a number of sexual assault allegations against male artists which were doing the rounds at the time she wrote it (“Listen to this band … The singer is a nice guy with a raging complex”).
“There’s still a really dirty side to the industry,” she says. “All too often, the system is adhering to an archaic, misogynistic interpretation of ‘punk’ that makes guys think they’re invincible.”
It’s the first song we’ve heard from the Leeds band’s follow-up to last year’s debut album ‘Nothing Gives’. The new album is expected next year, while the single is out now through Leisure & District, backed with a cover of ‘The Money Will Roll Right In’ by early ’80s hardcore punks Fang, previously used as a set-opener by Nirvana.
The band are on tour in the UK starting next week; you can find the dates just below the video.
