Sony is set to start pressing it’s own vinyl for the first time since 1989.
The major label is set to open a new pressing plant in Japan’s Shizuoka Prefecture in March 2018. It’ll be the first time in three decades they’ve produced their own wax, and will largely be used for Japanese reissues and bigger contemporary releases.
It’s just the latest step in the so-called-vinyl-revival, which is all very well until some boring old man tries to tell you it’s ‘the only real way to listen to music’ and that guy (it’s always a guy) who wants to seem ‘more authentic’ tries to act snooty despite the fact every single 12” they ever bought is still shrink wrapped in their bedroom.
Vinyl is great, guys. Brilliant. But y’know – it’s the music that counts. Hope this helps.
