SPINN are back with a new tune, ‘It’s Not Getting Better’, and news of a September headline tour.
“I went a bit Father John Misty when I wrote the lyrics to this song,” explains songwriter Jonny. “It’s like my lament on the state of everything going on at the moment, the worlds a bit of a mess what can I say?! So I wrote about the mess, and zapped it with the Scouse Pop Ray Gun that every band from Liverpool receives when they’re played more than eight times by Dave Monks on BBC Radio Merseyside.
“Anyway I wanted this track to plays the role as both a loose social commentary, and a contemporary pop song, and I think it kind of works. People don’t view us a political band, but we still have stuff we want to say, just wait until we split up and Sean goes all Bed for Peace Lennon, then you’ll see. Musically I think it’s probably our most emotional track we have, and I’m not sure why…. but I always get a lump in my throat, I don’t know why but I bloody love it.”
The group are playing a handful of dates over summer, followed by a proper headline tour in September that includes a night at London’s Thousand Island.
