Stormzy and Sampha are favourites for the Hyundai Mercury Prize, apparently

Little Mix are out at 100/1 though, which just isn’t on.

Bookies have revealed the first odds for this year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize.

The 12 records nominated for this year’s award are set to be announced at a launch event on Thursday, 27th July, and according to Ladbrokes.

Joint favourites for the gong are Stormzy and Sampha, both listed at 6/1. Rag ’n’ Bone Man, London Grammar, Richard Dawson, Alt-J, Depeche Mode, Swet Shop Boys and The xx also feature high up the odds list.

Interestingly, Creeper find themselves on the same odds as Gorillaz, which may be a good sign that rock music could finally receive Mercury Prize recognition. However, Charli XCX sits at 22/1 despite not actually releasing an album (no, that’s a mixtape, remember! – Ed), while Little Mix are out at 100/1. That’s just stupid. All the awards should go to Little Mix.
