With typical Scottish grit and might, T In The Park could survive – but maybe only if it becomes an 18+ festival, apparently.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland, T’s organiser and chief executive of DF Concerts Geoff Ellis says: “What we have seen in recent years is more 16 and 17-year-olds going a bit crazy. So let’s make the campsite over 18 going forward.”
He also mentions that despite issues with the festival site, they are not currently looking for anywhere else to host T, though they are “still in the throes of looking at everything.” So, never say never, right? He also mentions that the fest would likely skew away from dance / electronic music.
Since starting in 1994, T has been a rite of passage for young Scotlanders all over, but more recently it has been the subject of vast criticism, especially after last year’s event which saw two deaths, along with a stolen cash machine (the latter’s quite impressive, actually).
While T takes a break, the organisers have announced a new festival called TRNSMT, which will take place between 7th-9th July on Glasgow Green. Featuring headliners Radiohead, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro it looks set to be more than up to the challenge of standing in for its sister fest.
