Earlier this evening (like, an hour ago) The 1975 dropped the first song from their new album, ‘Give Yourself A Try’.
Alongside it, during a chat on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, they dropped loads of new info – including the snippet that they’ve actually got two albums coming up, which will make up an era titled Music For Cars.
The first, ‘A Brief Enquiry into Online Relationships’ is due in “October”, however during their radio slot they were pretty schtum on the second, which they suggested was going to land next May.
But, in a new chat with Beats 1 (it’s all going on), Matty has revealed the second full-length’s title: ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’.
“There is no album called Music For Cars,” he explains. “Music For Cars was what I was going to call this album, which is now called ‘A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships’. Every writer wants a great ending, right? That’s what you want as part of your repertoire. I think that I had the drive to do that so much after ‘I Like It When You Sleep’, that it was kind of driving me.
“Then when I started making this record I realised I was being naive, I was lying to myself. I’m not going to stop the 1975 next year, no way. I don’t want to do that. I’m never ashamed of changing my mind in public, so I thought, Music For Cars is the era. It’s the umbrella for whatever music comes out in this timeframe. We’re actually doing two albums, we’re doing ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, and then I think May next year, we’re dropping ‘Notes on a Conditional Form’, which is a different album.”
