The Maccabees’ Orlando Weeks announces debut book ‘The Gritterman’ with an accompanying album

The album features narration from Paul Whitehouse and stands as the first new music from Orlando since The Maccabees bid adieu

After rounding things out with The Maccabees at their sensational farewell shows back at the start of July, frontman Orlando Weeks has announced details of his next direction in the form of a debut illustrated book and an accompanying album alongside it.

‘The Gritterman’ revolves around the tale of a road gritter on his final night on the job, telling the tale of someone losing the job they love so dearly and everything attached to that.

Explaining the book, Orlando said: “A lot of people’s work goes unrecognised and this is one of those jobs where that’s the case, to just go about your business and not need thanks is a very attractive quality, and he finds comfort in that sense of purpose”

The illustrated novel comes with that accompanying album, featuring new music composed by Orlando and narration by ‘Fast Show’ legend Paul Whitehouse – making it an absolute must-read and must-listen in the process. That’s how you get our attention.

Both the illustrated book and album are available from September 7th, with the first taster of the latter ‘Seasonal Hero’ available to plug in and play below,
