Technically, ‘Clocks’ is still in there. You can still hear that spiralling piano, and there are snippets of Chris Martin‘s vocal in the mix. It’s just that, basically, they have covered ‘Clocks’ in the style of Ross from Friends. Truly.
Have you ever seen the episode where Ross reveals that he used to play the keyboards, and spent years working out his ‘sound’? Then it turns out that his ‘sound’ is a bunch of barking dog sound effects and explosions, and he has to leave to go and get the helicopter sounds he left on a different disc? Yeah, that.
Cloud Nothings have also brought in neon lights and a smoke machine, so overall the effect is sort of like being inside a crashing UFO. It’s an experience.
