Bursting with dreams of endless summer road trips and 60s nostalgia, Tokyo Tea Room are an alternative rock quintet born in Kent from a dark and slightly damp basement. You can stream their second EP ‘Another Place Another Time’ exclusively on Dork right now, before its release next week.
Sharing bills with the likes of Mystery Jets, Wolf Alice, The Big Moon, Super Furry Animals and The Moonlandingz, as well as attracting attention from platforms including BBC Introducing, Tokyo Tea Room are a band worth the buzz, with ethereal vocals and essences of delicate psychedelia, entwined with the sweetness of indie melodies.
“Recording this EP compared everything we’ve put out was a lot different in terms of the creative process and the studio technique,” explains the band’s guitarist and producer Daniel Elliot.
He continues: “I think when it came down to recording [the band’s 2016 debut EP] ‘Key Philosophy’, we had a good idea of the way each individual song should sound, and as a band, we’d been playing the songs enough in our set to get to grips with the parts, with exception to ‘Feel’. This EP was open-ended, and some of the songs became more of a collage rather than a performance, and the approach to recording was more educated and experimental. We are really grateful to Easter Islands Records for working with us on putting out this EP on vinyl, it means a lot to all of us to put some of our best work to date on a format that all five of us love, and we are very excited to share it with everyone, it couldn’t have been done without their help and the help of others!”
