Toothless is back with a brand new EP!
The ‘Palm’s EP’ features a Genuinely Really Very Lovely new song, ‘Chasing Godot’, which you can check out first on Dork below.
It’s backed up by a cover of Sufjan Stevens’ ‘The Dress Looks Nice On You’ and reworked versions of some of the tracks on Toothless’ debut album ‘The Pace of the Passing’, released earlier this year.
Speaking about the new release, Ed Nash (that’s Toothless, obviously, you knew this already – Ed. As in Editor. Not as in…. never mind.): “About this time last year me and some friends soundproofed the breezeblock shed at the back of my garden to use as a rehearsal and recording studio. Up until this point all the writing I had done for Toothless had taken place in my living room or other peoples more professional rooms. Since then with the new space, I’ve spent my time working on my production skills, experimenting with new sounds and generally enjoying making music. This EP is the result of that time.”
Regarding ‘Chasing Godot’, Ed explains: “I have had the main guitar part for this sitting around for years but couldn’t write a song around it that fit sonically with the first Toothless record. It was too slow and folky for what I was doing. This Ep gave me free reign to do what I wanted! The title refers to the Samuel Beckett play Waiting For Godot where two men sit waiting for Godot for the whole play to no avail. This is a metaphor for people spending their lives waiting for things to happen that inevitably wont. I don’t like the idea of waiting for things to come to you. Much better to go after them.”
Interesting fact. The artwork for the EP was created by Orlando Weeks off The Maccabees. Indie arts collab ahoy!
