Vampire Weekend made a surprise live return this week

Ezra Koenig and co. perform two tracks for ‘Running Late’ comedy show.

Vampire Weekend made a surprise live return this week, playing a few songs for comedian Scott Rogowsky’s show ‘Running Late’.

Rogowksy is known for hosting the HQ trivia app. Ezra and co. showed up at Los Angeles’ Largo Theatre during a performance of ‘Running Late’, marking their first live appearance in ‘a while’.

According to Pitchfork Rogowsky confirmed that the band performed two tracks, ‘Unbelievers’ from 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City, and old favourite ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’ from their debut.

It’s not known what the full lineup of the band will be come album release time, with founder Rossam Batmanglij having departed in 2016. Check out photos from the show below.

It’s all rather exciting, especially with the recent new of the band’s first confirmed live show in over four years at this year’s End Of The Road Festival – taking place at the end of August with a pretty spectacular bill. With frontman Ezra Koenig revealing their anticipated new album was about “80% done” towards the end of last year and had a working title of ‘Mitsubishi Macchiato’ – we’re pretty sure we’ll have heard some new music before they step on that headline stage.
