The self-titled posthumous release from Viola Beach is currently on track to be the UK Number 1 this week, almost 6 months since the tragic accident that claimed their lives.
The album was compiled by the band’s friends and family following the tragedy, and is currently outselling the likes of ELO and DJ Khaled.
Speaking about the current chart position, Martin Talbot from the Official Charts Company said:
“Following the terribly tragic events of February, everyone will have been rooting for the Viola Beach album this week, so it’s fantastic news that it is doing so well – I’m sure we will all be keeping our fingers crossed that it can hold on at Number One.”
All four members of the Warrington band (Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin) and their manager Craig Tarry were killed in February, after their car fell into a canal whilst driving across Sweden during their first overseas tour.
The album includes the single ‘Boys That Sing’, which was recently given an official video in tribute to the band, put together by animators McKinnon & Saunders.
