Win Butler of Arcade Fire talks more about new number ‘I Give You The Power’

He talked about the track, working with Mavis Staples and y’know – the T word…

After shaking things well and truly about with returning cutter ‘I Give You The Power’, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler has delved deeper in a recent chat with Zane Lowe.

Appearing on the presenter’s Beats 1 show, Win spoke about working with gospel icon Mavis Staples – commenting that she “is one of my favourite people on earth and I’ve been fortunate enough to sing with her a couple of times and we just have a really beautiful relationship with her as a band”.

The track itself, a particularly vital and outspoken hitter that we’ve declared as a pretty important banger, takes on the whole Trump inauguration with unfaltering honesty, with Win himself elaborating on the timing of its release.

“It’s the eve of the inauguration and I think it’s easy to get sucked into sitting on the couch and checking your news feed and watching things on CNN, and we’re just musicians and the only thing we have to offer is our music.”

“I talked to Mavis last night and she said, ‘Now more than ever we just need to hold onto each other.’ For us it’s a feeling of solidarity—to not feel powerless and focus on what we can do as individuals and try to do our part.”

It comes amidst a big ‘ol year for Arcade Fire, with a new album heavily rumoured to be on the horizon and a string of festival shows lined up around Europe in the summer (including a headlining night at the Isle Of Wight Festival).
